Fortnite Review: The Most Advanced Battle Royale Action

Fortnite is one of the most glorified multiplayer action games of the late 2010s. If you haven’t joined it yet, you can download Fortnite for PS4 for free, at any moment. Check yourself in a combat, one versus all!

Graphics: 5

Of course, there are better-drawn shooting games with more details and photorealistic visuals. But Fortnite preserves the same looks on PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, Android, or iOS. So powerful hardware of PS4 is excessive for that. On the other hand, the game looks very decent, with realistic movements and convincing landscapes, despite all its unreal setting. The developers put all their fantasy in fantastic weapons, vehicles, and the whole area. By the way, the sound is as important here to locate combats or enemy approaching, so connect your best speakers.

Gameplay: 5

No preludes, no explanations; you’re deployed to an abandoned island among the party of 100 your likes. When you land, you need to find yourself some weapons and kill each other, till there’s only one left (or one team, if you prefer team mode). The island is rich of abandoned houses where you can find guns, rifles, armors, and medicine. The vehicles you may find include cars and sometimes planes, and they let you travel across the island.

You can’t just wait in your vault, as the storm is coming, and it drives all the survivors together to its eye. But you can build yourself a shelter or a tower to protect yourself or track enemies better. The materials can be obtained from everything, as the world is completely interactive here.

The game leaves space for various tactics, for selecting your favorite weapons, and, of course, for investing money. The trick is that you won’t buy any real combat advantages; you only can decorate yourself with special outfits. But that seems enough for many players, so they make distinct looks and train their skills.

Controls: 5

The game offers default control system for a third person view shooter. The developers managed to make it equally intuitive for PS4 with its Dualshocks and, say, for generic keyboard and mouse, or got iPad and other touchscreen devices. This compatibility multiplies the number of players you can see online at any given moment. But as for experienced Dualshock users, it will be more reliable than any mobile ad hoc controllers or key shortcuts.

Replay Value: 5

The team does anything to avoid stagnation, so Fortnite gets updates constantly. New landscape elements and biomes, climatic changes, strange invaders to encounter on the island, and weapon rebalancing are introduced constantly. In fact, Fortnite review should be rewritten after each new season starts.

The Bottom Line

Projects like Fortnite are rare (despite Battle Royale obsession that followed its success). If you like action games with tactical and fortifying thinking involved, the only reason not to download Fortnite for PS4 is that you already have it.
